Oakwood Canine Rescue Service

Prospective owners must be aged 21 or over and a full home check will be required.

We will require you to bring any other dog owned by you for introduction to make sure the dogs get along, the same applies with children and other family members.

All members of the family/people in the home must be in agreement about getting a rescue dog.

All homes must have a secure garden and owners must be willing to provide each dog with the level of exercise and stimulation it requires each day.

We expect new owners to give the dog a reasonable amount of time to settle and adjust to their new life, however if an incompatibility arises and you can no longer keep the dog, the dog MUST be returned to us.

An Adoption contract MUST be signed to agree to all of the above on the day of adoption.

The dog must have annual vaccinations; we can provide a “vaccination for life scheme” with Vets4Pets to ensure this is done at an additional cost of £99.00 payable when you take the dog from us. Travel may be required if you do not live near a Vets4Pets Branch. Vaccination for Life is only through Vets4Pets and no other vet (you will receive a vaccination certificate, but if you allow the vaccinations to become overdue the vacs4life will lapse).

The dog must be insured. Proof of insurance must be provided each year. The exception will be adopters who use the PDSA, however proof will be required.

No dogs must be left alone in the home for more than 5 hours, other arrangements MUST be made, dogs must also not be left alone overnight – holiday care/daycare can be provided through Oakwood Rescue.

You do not have children under 10 years old living in the home, visiting children MUST be advised it is not acceptable to harass a dog, pull its tail, ears etc.

You agree to an initial & annual home check being carried out and ensure that any requirements are carried out and that the boundary fence is maintained securely at 6ft at all times.

You agree to pay an adoption fee (all dogs are fully vaccinated, neutered and micro-chipped) which covers some of the care that the dog has received and also helps towards veterinary care of other dogs in need.

We reserve the right to remove the dog if we feel the above conditions are not being kept or we are in any doubt of the welfare of the dog.

Lastly......

This may seem like a long list - however if you look there is nothing on here that a responsible dog owner would not do as standard. By putting these requirements in place for our dogs we ensure that prospective owners have thought long and hard about getting a dog and are also committed to the process. We know we will have  the best homes for life. All our dogs are homed to 5 * loving homes where owners treat their dogs are part of the family and love them for what they are.
